Christopher Ehrfurth’s primary areas of practice are criminal defense and family law. Before attending law school, he graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. At Marquette University Law School, Christopher was a Saint Thomas More Law Scholarship recipient and a Zilber Scholars Fund Scholarship recipient. He was a student contributor to the Marquette University Law School Faculty Blog, and was also named to the Dean’s List. As a student, Christopher served as an intern for the Honorable Judge Timothy Witkowiak of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, and later as a law clerk at Kuchler & Cotton. Since graduating law school he has worked full-time as an attorney for Kuchler & Cotton.

Christopher practices criminal defense in both Federal court, and State courts all over the State of Wisconsin. He has defended a multitude of federal charges, including bank robbery, drug conspiracy, tax evasion, and sex trafficking. In State court he has represented clients charged with offenses ranging from disorderly conduct to theft to homicide. Some of his best work has been done before any charges were filed against his clients, where he has often successfully avoided serious felony charges, or negotiated reduced charges with an agreement for probation. This type of “pre-charging” representation can be very valuable for clients.

Several of Christopher’s clients have been found “not guilty” at trial. His litigation and negotiation efforts have resulted in the suppression of evidence and outright dismissal of felony charges on multiple occasions, including the dismissal of felonies, misdemeanors, and municipal citations. Christopher also has significant experience in Drunk Driving Defense, having secured the dismissal of both criminal and non-criminal OWI charges through litigation and negotiation. His courtroom skills have resulted in the suppression of both blood and breath evidence, and his clients have avoided both OWI convictions and ignition interlock Device requirements on multiple occasions. In addition to his practical Drunk Driving Defense experience, Christopher also devotes significant time each year to continuing education focusing specifically on OWI defense. He has attended Wisconsin’s Annual Drunk Driving Defense Seminar on multiple occasions, and has even become certified in administering Standardization Field Sobriety Tests.

In his post-conviction work, Christopher has succeeded in reopening and dismissing old convictions, obtaining re-sentencing hearings for this clients, and reducing their prior prison sentences by up to 10 years. He has helped clients avoid revocation of probation and extended supervision, both by securing Alternatives to Revocation, and by winning Revocation Hearings.

Christopher also has significant experience defending restraining orders/injunctions. Throughout his career, he has secured a multitude of dismissals of harassment restraining orders/injunctions, domestic violence restraining orders/injunctions, and complex child abuse restraining orders/injunctions.

In his family law practice, Christopher handles divorces from start to finish, and also represents clients on various post-judgment matters related to child custody, placement, and support. He has secured favorable outcomes for his clients in divorce cases, greatly increasing their assets and placement time. His post-judgment modifications of child custody, placement, and support have improved the lives of many clients.

Christopher truly enjoys his work, largely because it provides him with the opportunity to help people. If you’re charged with a crime, served with a restraining order/injunction, or facing a divorce of child custody dispute, you are facing what may be the most difficult battle or your life. Do not make the mistake of fighting this battle alone.
